Abandoned or unclaimed property legislation, 1963 [state publication].

This study suggests a state program to deal with the problem of abandoned or unclaimed property which will notify the rightful owner of the property's existence and provide non-tax revenue to the state. Included are the scope and types of state legislation, the constitutionality, revenue aspects, and refunds and administrative costs, in Section 1. Section 2 consists of "The Uniform Disposition of Unclaimed Property Act," its background and terms. Following each section are the Commissioner's notes (comments of drafters of the Uniform Act), statutory notes (changes and amendments by various states), and recommendations for the state. Section 3 contains sources of authority and citations. Relevant state laws, time periods before property is presumed abandoned by various states, estimated revenue from bank deposits, and the proposed bill for the state appear in Section 4. Abandoned property may include unclaimed bank deposits, life insurance funds, utility deposits and refunds, stock dividends, et cetera. A typewritten copy of the preliminary report from the law offices of Gallion (MacDonald) and Hare (Nicholas S.) is appended to one report.
